2007 Black Bear Conservation

Last year, Dad and John Madden hosted and joined the graduate students of University of Tenn. on the capture and move of 10 female black bears and their cubs (totaling 25ish). My daddy has the opportunity to be involved in many efforts like this one, but I think he is amazed each year at the new adventures he is afforded at this time in his life.

This year's adventure was even more exciting. He picked up my 8 year old neice, Lana, at 7:15 in the morning and off they went on the full day of the first two captures of black bear for the spring.

This is not just any trip to the zoo. I will post more later about the process of climbing a 50 foot tree, traquilizing a 250 pound female black bear and lowering she and her cubs down to a perot where Lana sits to welcome them. She and Dad were beside themselves with all the excitement. She had so many pictures. No one at her school believed her until they saw the pics.

What if we live together but only communicate through comments on our blogs...just a thought.
